On 06 December 2019, the Munich Security Network held a final conference for the past year. As part of the lecture series, Dr. Nikolai A. Behr informed the participants about crisis communication. This topic is not only present in the IT industry. Especially hacker attacks and security holes have fatal consequences for the affected companies. In order to keep the damage as low as possible, preventive crisis training in particular can be helpful. In his lecture, Dr. Behr showed what different types of crises a company can face. However, if a company prepares itself for the different situations in advance, the consequences can be kept to a minimum. A selected crisis team as well as the corresponding communication training are a big factor.
Crisis situations are delicate. Mistakes made here have a particularly serious impact on companies. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to know in advance about possible dangers and communication strategies in the crisis. A crisis training therefore simulates the most realistic possible emergency and shows step by step how best to act, rather than just reacting. Through open feedback and application of the jointly developed messages and strategies, you can react quickly and in a sensible way to crisis situations and remain sovereign and credible as the point of contact for media, authorities and the population.
